Beyond Carnatic Music #ArtistDiaries

Her parents were keen music listeners and so did she develop a taste for music during her early age. She was made to join Carnatic music. That was when she started practising music. However, people took a note of the tone she had. She was also aware that, what she had was innate.

6 years ago, Megha Shankar moved to Mumbai to pursue her studies in St. Xavier's College. There, she was exposed to different genres of music and musicians. She then realised that music is extremely diverse. Megha tried many genres of music during her time in Xavier’s.

Bangalore Scenes

Megha moved back to Bangalore two and half years ago. She was in this flea market. She was with a band as a backing singer. During the soundcheck, Megha was right next to the console, singing. One of the guys heard her and offered her to jam. They jammed on Friday and she performed in a gig on Sunday. After which, there was no looking back.

She feels she is lucky because she got heard by the right people. She is glad that things escalated real quickly in Bangalore. After performing for two and half years now, she realises that she is best at jazz and blues, though she is pretty good in rock with her own twist.
